My wig review of Canada Hair

Losing your hair just runs in my family. There’s no way around it and since I started dieting and eating less the problem got worse. I explained in a different blog post, that I had experienced hair loss while trying to lose weight. I changed my diet to include more foods that help with hair growth such as salmon, berries, eggs, avocados, berries and such. However, trying to fix this issue in combination to my bad hair genetics takes time. I already have thin and over-processed bleached hair to begin with so losing more hair was a true nightmare, I know it’s very superficial but sometimes we can’t control feeling down or feeling less confident because of how we look. I think it’s a feeling that everyone experiences from time to time.

After trying clip in extensions that I loved so much by the way, I needed something more and wanted to change my hair completely. However, since my hair is already in a fragile state and I do not wish to add anything that might worsen my situation such as a hair dye or bleach, I figured a wig would be the best option for me.

What is great about wigs and why I was drawn toward this solution is that you can completely change your hair without damaging it. If I am a brunette and want blonde hair without the damage that comes with lightening dark hair, a blonde wig is the perfect solution. And on the contrary if you are blonde and want to be brunette at any given day without dying your hair dark, you can wear a brunette wig. Not only can you change your hair color with a wig, you can also change your hairstyle. You can get a shorter wig, a longer one, one with bangs, one with highlights…If you are an indecisive person with their hair like I am, this is a tremendous positive point for wigs. The fact that there’s no commitment to any style of hair also means no regret, how many times have you cut your hair short, or got your hair damaged with a hair dye only to end up regretting making that decision and wishing you can go back in time.

Additionally, your own hair stays safe and protected while it’s tucked under your wig. In my case, it provided a much needed brake for my hair, I was not washing it excessively, I stopped styling it with hot tools and using styling products all together.

Now let’s get to the wig I ordered. A few months ago I bought one online and instantly fell in love with it. It’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. Not to mention it didn’t break the bank either. I think we can all appreciate that.

I wanted to keep it simple and just go for a shorter wig with a darker brunette color. And Canada Hair had EXACTLY what I needed! I really love my wig and I have taken great care of it and it is basically like new still.

Like everything these days, getting a wig at your local store can get expensive quick. Just go see for yourself! I found that Canada Hair had great wigs for just over $100 in a lot of cases. And that’s exactly what I got with mine. Which promoted me to write this wig review of Canada Hair!

If you are in search of an affordable wig that will actually last a long time, give Canada Hair a shot. They have some great deals, so check back on the site here and there to see what kind of sales there are.

Since it was my very first wig I opened for a simple model that will not overwhelm me when I wear it. I highly suggest you do the same and not to order a flamboyant one if it’s your first wig. Get one that is simple and that you can feel comfortable and not self conscious when wearing it.

The wig I ordered is made from synthetic hair, it’s not human hair. I choose a synthetic hair wig because it’s the most affordable quality, although human hair wigs are a better quality they also come with a higher price tag.

The wig I ordered from Canada Hair is a front lace wig, which means that it has an invisible hairline. This lace material mics our scalp and hairline appearance, it is used as a base to sew the hair one by one to it. This one of the most popular wigs styles in Hollywood, many actors and singers use a front lace wig to change appearance while maining the most natural hairstyles.

The font lace needs to be trimmed and cut to follow your natural hair line shape, you can do this yourself at home. I looked at many tutorials online to do it and it’s not hard at all, you just need a smallish pair of scissors. I suggest you cut the lace a little by little and not all in one go. The lace is a delicate material, be gentle with it and don’t pull or tug on it, otherwise it will lose its shape.

The other advantage of front lace wigs is that you can change the parting direction of the hair. If you order a wig with no set part like the one I got from Canada Hair it’s best, since it will be easier to set a part. However, if you get a wig that is already parted, you can change it by wetting the hair and brushing it in the direction you want.

Canada Hair wigs are one standard size. Mine fits comfortably, not too tight and not too loose. It also has adjustment traps at the back, it's like how a bra can be adjusted, the wig can be tightened if you prefer it to be snug.

Here are the measurements (taken from the website):

  • The circumference is 22”

  • Back to front from hairline to the top of neck is 15”

  • Side to side across forehead 15”

  • Side to side over top ear to ear 12.75”

  • Temple to temple across back 16”.

  • Nape of neck 5”

Like I previously said, my wig is made from synthetic hair. Despite this the hair was very very soft, in fact softer than my own natural hair. Synthetic hair also means that the hair will be a bit shiny. I sent an email to Canada Hair to ask how to make the hair more matt and they told me to spray a little bit of dry shampoo on it and it worked like a charm. In my opinion, it looks just like my own hair, even my boyfriend thinks so.

In order to secure the wig in place, I bread my natural hair and pin it to my head to create a flat surface, then I wear my wig cap (it was included with the wig) and then I place the wig on my head. You can secure the wig using wig tape or glue, but I personally don’t use any since I don’t feel like I need to. I don’t wear my wig to workout for example.

Ordering was very easy and simple, the checkout was fast and user friendly. I was also able to use a coupon code I found on the website, it was SUPER10 and got an additional 10% off. I believe this coupon is valid right now as well, it's still on Canada Hair website. What I liked as well was the free shipping. You get free shipping with every order without a minimum order amount, which is alway a plus for me. I hate paying for shipping and avoid websites that charge it.

Now let’s talk about the delivery. After I placed my order I received a confirmation email with my order details and a second email when my order was shipped. All orders are traceable online as it’s the case with most online retailers. My wig was delivered  4 days later and  it was shipped with FedEx. I did not have to pay any duty fees or customs. Included with my wig was a detangling brush and an instruction pamflet.

I have had my wig for a few months now and it’s still going strong and I still love it. It’s really easy to take care of since it’s made from synthetic hair, it requires less maintenance and less expensive products to keep it in good shape. I don’t wear it everyday and I make sure that when I am not wearing it’s detangled and braided and stored away.

I am not the best at explaining how to wash it and care for it, but there’s detailed tutorials on Canada Hair that explain this.

One last thing, if a wig is something that is just too much for your needs, you can order a hair topper. It's a small hair piece that is designed to cover hair loss issues. If you suffer from hair loss, thinning hair, alopecia... a hair topper is the best product to cover that in my opinion.

If you are not looking for wigs, Canada hair also offers a plethora of hair extensions, ranging from clip-in extensions to tape-in and many more. They also offer color matching services if you need help finding your hair color and samples as well.

In conclusion I am very happy with my purchase and will absolutely order more wigs in the future to venture out from my conservative style. I will probably try a human hair wig next and do a follow up review comparing the synthetic wig I have VS a human hair wig.

I hope this review of Canada Hair wigs was helpful! Continue reading below to learn more about wigs in general. There is a lot to know!
