How to be efficient working remotely
Due to COVID-19, those that can work from home, many are doing it. Remote work was already becoming more popular, but it was definitely pushed forward due to the times we’re living in.
Working from home can be distracting, if you allow it to be. Or you can make it even more efficient than being in the office itself.
Multiple screens
This can really help in terms of efficiency. Having your laptop connect to another monitor (or even two) can really help get things done.
Video conferencing
Zoom has essentially become a household name at this point. Using Zoom, WebEx, Google Meet or any similar software is essential.
Messaging app
Slack is another term that has become household. Using slack, Microsoft Teams or another messaging app is critical. It is much more efficient than email conversations.
Keeping track
What did you do yesterday? What are you doing today? Keeping track of these things will be beneficial in many ways. You may need to reference back what you worked on. Or it could even look pretty impressive if your boss sees all those notes during a screenshare for example.
Setting hours
It’s easy to blur the lines between work and at home life when working remotely. Once it hits 6pm for example, shut that laptop. It is too easy to get caught up working all day if your team is really busy.
Meal prepping
Having home cooked meals ready to go is key. Do not let yourself get caught up in going to Taco Bell or McDonalds for lunch each day. It will harm your body, mind and work performance. Meal prep some healthy vegetables, meat and so on.
Hydration
This is simple yet so many people disregard it. Drink water consistently throughout the day. Dehydration leads to headaches and many other issues. It is vital to keep your body and mind hydrated!
Those are just a few things that come to mind to stay efficient when working remotely. What have you found that works best?
