Future of remote work in digital marketing (Updated 2023)

Updated 12/22/22

It’s safe to say we all anticipated remote work becoming more common in the future. We probably did not expect it to come so quickly, due to covid 19.

It is already 2023 folks! and we are about a year and a half into the covid era. Many are returning to work back in offices but many are also staying home working. And some are taking the hybrid approach and doing both.

There is even talk of a 4 day work week! Now how awesome would that be.

If you read about this topic on LinkedIn for example, you will get feelings from all different sides. One day we see an article talking about workers being burnt out working from home. The next day it is an article saying how wonderful remote work is and how positive the effect has been.

As you get your digital career going, make sure you have your financials in line. Especially with something like an in service rollover for your 401k. It’s a huge part of your future, make sure you are on top of it! There is seriously so much information out there that you can at least teach yourself the basics. But as you get more and more into it, it’s probably best to reach out to a financial advisor and have them help you out.

Ok now let’s get more into remote work!

Positive aspects of remote work in digital marketing

Let’s start off with the good side of this.

You have true freedom. And let’s be real, we’re not kids. We’re not going to screw around all day just because we are working from home now. Well, let’s hope that is the case.

But with software like Zoom and Slack, there’s no reason teams can’t be productive remotely.

In fact, many people find their productivity increases working from home due to things like:

  • no more sitting in traffic

  • no distractions from coworkers

  • no need to spend time getting all dressed up

  • ability to workout before work now that commuting isn’t a thing

Those are just a few options that come to mind. What would you add to this?

Downsides of remote work in digital marketing

You miss that in person interaction and comradery. Whether it’s a quick 1 on 1 in somebody’s office or a team meeting in the conference room.

While some people love working from home, it’s not for everyone. For extroverts, working form home is not the most ideal situation. They need that in person interaction that you get at the office. A lot of people like quick pow-wow type of meetings to get ideas out there. However, some introverts might argue you can do that just as efficient over a video conference call.

Working from home everyday might start to blend your work and personal life. And let’s be real, nobody wants that. Nor should they. These two things need to be separate.

Where is digital marketing remote work headed?

Two options that come to mind: fully remote and the hybrid approach. The days of being in the office Monday-Friday are probably going to be behind us in most cases.

Digital marketing has been undergoing rapid change in recent years, and it is expected to continue to evolve over the next few years. In 2023, some of the most popular forms of digital marketing are likely to include:

1. Content Marketing: Content marketing involves creating and sharing content such as blogs, videos, infographics and podcasts to attract customers and build brand awareness. This type of digital marketing can be highly effective when used properly, as it enables businesses to engage with their target audience in an informative way.

2. Social Media Marketing: Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn offer powerful opportunities for businesses to reach a wide range of potential customers. Platforms like these allow companies to share news and content, and engage with their audience. They can also be used for paid advertising campaigns to increase visibility and reach even more people.

3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SEO is a type of digital marketing that involves optimizing webpages in order to improve their search engine rankings. This allows businesses to become more visible online, which ultimately leads to more traffic and conversions. Utilizing best practices for SEO will help companies stay ahead of the competition and remain relevant in the digital age.

4. Email Marketing: Email marketing is another popular form of digital marketing in 2023, as it enables businesses to communicate directly with customers or potential customers via email campaigns. Companies can send newsletters, product updates and promotions directly into customers’ inboxes, and track the effectiveness of their campaigns.

5. Video Marketing: Video is increasingly being used as an effective marketing tool, as it allows companies to communicate more quickly and engage with customers on a deeper level. Videos can be shared across different platforms, making them a great way for businesses to spread their message far and wide.
